6 month check up and cleaning. Normally don’t mind the dentist but they use this one tool for cleaning that I just can’t stand and they use it to scrape the buildup off the teeth. I am reminded though as I sit here of this idea of ‘check ups’. While it’s healthy to get a dental check up only once or twice a year, I need spiritual ‘check ups’ everyday! How’s my attitude today? Where’s my heart right now? I think these kinds of questions help keep a healthy spiritual life and can serve as a kind of ’spiritual check up’.

Deep Fried..
Deep fried oreos! I heard about these little guys at the fair where they’ve also got deep fried twinkies but I decided that I had to try at least one out. My boss had the hook up so I got to taste two of these little heart stoppers. Forgive me, arteries!

So Ready To Be Done
Step right up folks and..read a brochure! So so bored..must keep going. I sense a coffee break on the horizon. The worst part is that since its the last night of the fair, I’ve gotta stay till 11:30 because we have to tear down the booth. And..tomorrow I’ve gotta be at event relations at 7:00 am. Oooh boy.

Financial Priorities
Just read 2 statistics that stopped me in my tracks. First, China has evicted roughly 3 million Beijing residents in preparation for the Olympics. These people more likely than not were living in homes or abodes that the government prefered the world stage not see. Recognizing the media coverage and attention that’s bound to come upon the capital, evicting residents has been part of China’s master plan for reconstruction leading up to the Olympics.
While I knew the number of people being forced to leave their homes was high, I had no idea. This kind of treatment would not fly in any other major industrialized western nation. Its simply ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as this: China has spent 300 times as much money on reconstructing the city in preparation for the olympics ($200 billion) than they spent on rural health care in 2006. Unreal.

Now More Than Ever
I sat down in my room to do some reading in ‘Hearing God’ and then I realized that I live in Southern California and that it was beautiful summer day at about 75 degrees with a nice breeze…so I decided to go read outside. But I feel like now more than ever I am interested in and longing for a more conversational relationship with God.

Covert Reading
I did a little improvising and made a table that sits lower than the booth table so that I can read as I man the booth, and to people walking by it just looks like I’m staring down at the ground haha
